Since 2008, Jesse James has DJed at weddings, corporate events, charities, conventions, clubs, burlesque shows, and zombie walks. He has performed in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Malibu, New York City, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. Venues include The House of Blues Anaheim, The historic Ivar Theater, Amoeba Records in Hollywood, Heat Ultra Lounge, and the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in D.C.
Regardless of where he’s DJing Jesse believes in carefully crafting the right aesthetic for his events; no detail is too small. Great service is everything. After completing back to back weddings in North Carolina and New York City, Jesse looks forward to debuting his new “Master Class” series, a new tour concept implementing a three-tiered platform: music licensing, live performance, and industry education and mentorship.
The Journey to Hollywood
In May of 2015, three-time Grammy nominee, DJ, Producer, and Perfecto Records Label owner, Paul Oakenfold debuted his electronic music academy and DJ Camp at the Los Angeles Film and Recording School. Jesse was one of sixteen people selected to attend. He spent a week learning from top executives in the music industry - agents, managers, lawyers, dj’s, producers, social media experts, Rolling Stone Magazine, American Idol, AM ONLY, The Grammys, and Paul Oakenfold.
By camp’s end Jesse had been accepted into the music production program at the Los Angeles Recording School. He returned to Virginia, and within two months he bought a car, installed a hitch, and packed everything he owned into a 5x8 trailer and trekked the 2600-mile journey to California. For the first few months he made home a friend’s couch and commuted the two-hour one-way drive for class before ultimately relocating to Los Angeles.
Two months into the curriculum Jesse was commissioned as brand ambassador of Oakenfold’s 2nd DJ Camp in September of 2015. He secured various editorials for the camp as well as a confirmed booking for Oakenfold at Mobile Beat’s Annual trade show in Las Vegas. Shortly thereafter Oakenfold hired Jesse as his music manager and world tour assistant. Jesse spent the next two years doing set prep, music library cataloging, software and hardware integration and maintenance, research, logistical support, and flag construction and design for Oakenfold’s Mt. Everest performance in April of 2017.
In February of 2017, Jesse graduated Summa Cum Laude with an A.S. in Music Production from the Los Angeles Film & Recording School. He received accolades for student of the month and had the only 4.0 GPA in his graduating class. Upon graduating Jesse was offered and accepted an opportunity to work as personal assistant to the Vice President of the Los Angeles Film School. In the same month Jesse accompanied Oakenfold for the kick off of his Generations world tour at Mobile Beat Las Vegas.
Jesse cites the two years he worked with Oakenfold, as "highly educational,” and credits paul for showing him the true nature of the music business. In September of 2017, Jesse decided to pursue other ambitions, which ultimately lead to a career in music licensing and Synchronization.
In November of 2017, Jesse accepted an internship with Roland Music; the world's largest electronic equipment manufacturer; upon completion, Jesse accepted a career opportunity currently underway, training as a music supervisor in music licensing and synchronization.
For Music Services and The World Song Network
In January of 2018, Jesse accepted a partnership with Ford Music Services and The World Song Network - one of the largest independent music licensing and sync agencies which brings artists and musicians song placements in films, television shows, and advertising campaigns. Jesse’s most recent placements include the trailer for the film “The Wedding Year,” and two songs in the new Mel Gibson film “Boss Level,” starring Naomi Watts and Frank Grillo.
From 2014 to 2015, just prior to relocating to California, Jesse created and hosted “The Essential Mix" on WRIR-LP 997.3 FM. The radio show aired weekly and featured a variety of electronic music and industry guests.
In 2012 Jesse began working with actors and directors to create “Cinema sets”, by writing and producing custom narratives to mix with electronic music Jesse brings a theatrical element to his performances. His three part Tron series, “elecTRONic Mayhem" featured voice work from Batman/ Mortal Kombat Director/Actor Richard Epcar, Disney Director, Actress, and Singer Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, and Batman Actor Christopher Smith. Actor Travis Williingham called it “A very impressive production quality being put forward.”
In 2011 Jesse formed the electronic cross-over group Trifecta, consisting of Japanese Taiko Drumming, Violinist Johnny Benson, and Jesse James. By combining their talents as individual artists into one entity they seek to bring a fresh take on the world of music, theater, and musical genre.
Charitable Work and Other Experience
Through his services as a DJ, Jesse has helped to raise more than $100,000 for charities including The American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Foundation, The Make A Wish Foundation, Toys For Tots, Chips for Kids, Walgreen’s Red Nose Day, and Safe Harbor, a domestic violence shelter.
Jesse also has many years of experience with commercial photography, audio and video editing, graphic design, and personal assistance to actors, directors, & bands. He was awarded employee of the year by AMA, LLC for his work with actors.
